Week 14: Final Blog Post

As this semester is coming to an end, I have some thoughts about my experience with taking this class. For one, I really had no idea what to expect when registering for this course. All I knew was that it was a requirement for the DCIM minor so whether I liked it or not, I had to take it. Thankfully, this was one of the more enjoyable classes I had this semester, and I actually feel like I learned things that I could potentially use for the future.

My first memorable take away form this course was having to make a blog. Honestly, this is something I really didn’t want to do at the beginning. I don’t really like writing so I thought that this was going to be something that I wasn’t going to do well on at all. As the weeks went on and the more posts we had to make, I actually found that I really do enjoy this blog. Tattoo are something that I can talk to someone about for hours, so this was the perfect topic for me.

Next, I’d like to talk about the PSA. When my group members were talking about the roles that we wanted to take in the PSA, I instantly jumped on the editing role. Im familiar with editing videos so I thought using audacity would be cake. Boyyyyyy, was I wrong! Trying to figure out how to use audacity was probably one of the most frustrating things that I had to deal with in a long time. It actually gave my computer a virus that I STILL haven’t figured out how to get rid of. However, since audacity just wasn’t working for me, my younger brother (who happens to make music) showed me how to use Logic Pro X. This for whatever reason was so much easier for me. So, the take away from this very frustrating assignment was that I now know how to use a professional editing system for audio which I know will benefit me in the future.

Lastly, I want to talk about the podcast. Now that I learned how to use Logic Pro X, I knew that editing the podcast would come rather easy to me. It made the assignment fun rather than stressful. Something really exciting about recording this assignment was that my brother let me use his professional recording equipment, which he never lets me go anywhere near. I was excited to get to use this because I really wanted the sound to be as clear as possible for my last big assignment.

All in all, I really enjoyed this class. Im happy that my Professor really pushed us into doing assignments that were weren’t necessarily confident in doing. It allowed me to learn new skills that I probably would have learned until later on in either college or even my future career. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone whose interested in the DCIM minor .

Week 12: Podcast

From my podcast, you can expect to learn about an event called Take Back the Night hosted by the club, Women Organizing Against Harassment, otherwise known as WOAH. While listening to the podcast you will see that I slowly get into the event name by introducing the listeners to a change that needs to be made, more specifically, a change that needs to be made in the way that women are treated. I then talk about my organization and the amazing event that they put on once a year.

These memes relate to the topic of my website because clearly, they have everything to do with tattoos. The memes that I chose are funny ways to depict what almost every person who has tattoos thinks while getting or after getting a tattoo. The first meme that I chose is a funny representation about what the placement of your tattoo means. Obviously, this is just for fun and it shouldn’t be taken to seriously, but when you think about the placement of your tattoo, it is kind of accurate to what the meme is saying it means. The second meme that I chose is of an owl and the message says, “That initial feeling when the needle first touches the skin”. The owls eyes are super wide and it looks like its in pain. This is funny because in my experience, whenever I get a new tattoo I always kind of forget what the needle feels like so I’m always taken by surprise. This meme is an accurate representation of me when I get a tattoo. The last meme that I chose is talking about how not every tattoo needs meaning. This meme actually means a lot to me because I have a couple of tattoos that don’t have any meaning at all besides the fact that I liked to tattoo. A lot of people (mostly people who don’t have tattoos) are taken by surprise to hear that some of my tattoo do not have any meaning.

Week 7 Post

The purpose of my video is to guide people who never had to go through the process of finding a tattoo artist. Sometimes the process can be overwhelming and scary. After all, tattoos are forever so you really want to make sure you are going to a reliable artist. My intended audience for this video is young adults, 18+. This is because that is the legal age in the United States that you can get a tattoo without parent consent. The people that are going to want to watch my video are people are who do not have tattoos, who eventually plan to get tattoos. I know that people of this category are going to watch my video because according to Wolf, “…if we see that you watch one of a certain video we know that other people who have watched that video in the past went on to watch this other video” (Wolf). Eventually, my video will pop up in people’s “recommended”. Typically, before someone gets a tattoo or piercing, or anything of that nature, they like to research and watch videos on what to expect. That is why I have full confidence that my video will be something that someone will want to watch.

About My Header

cropped-wordpress-header.jpg

Here is the header image that I designed for my blog. Immediately after seeing my header, it is known that my site is going to have something to do with tattoos. I decided on going with a colorful background with black and white images to show a contrast. The reason I chose the background that I did was because its abstract and creative. Typically, people who get tattoo are pretty creative. A lot of the time people don’t get tattoos that have obvious reasoning behind it. This made me want to chose a background that is more abstract. As far as the two images of the art pieces, I really wanted to show something that expressed the “art” factor of tattoos. A lot of the time, people who are against tattoos forget that they are a form of art. And sometimes, people just want to express an art piece on their body. I found all three of my images using creative commons and then through google. I know that I am allowed to reuse them because I made sure to look at the copyright information underneath each image. The production process of making this header was actually quite difficult. Finally, after the fourth or fifth time of restarting, I got it right. The hardest part really was the layering of the images. Once I finally realized that all I had to do was copy and paste the images, the rest came pretty easy. One thing that I really took away from Manovich’s article was the use of sharpening images. I sharpened both of the images used because I feel  like it made the line-work of the tattoos stand out more. It really made a big difference from beginning to end. Especially since there is a lot going on in the background, I think sharpening both images made them stand out a lot more. In Davidson’s article about Microsoft paint, he explains that he can tell when am image it put together through copy and paste. ” The image is sparse and dominated by a default white background. The exact repetition by the seated figure implies the use of ‘copy’ and ‘paste'” (Davidson 10). Pixlr editor is so much more advanced than Microsoft paint and ‘copy’ and ‘paste’ is still such an important aspect. Some things just never change.

Who Am I?

My name is Sarah, welcome to my blog! Every since I was little, I’ve always had a fascination with tattoos; probably because my entire family has tattoos. I always caught myself starring at stranger tattoos when they would walk by (I still do this). The rule in my family always was that we were allowed to get our first tattoo when we are 17 years old, just as long as we find something that we want and have our heart set on it for a full year. My parents never wanted us to get something that we would one day regret, so they figured a year was a good amount of time to think about something. For the year leading up to my 17th birthday, I created exactly what I wanted to be my first tattoo, and stared at the picture every single day. I could not wait until my 17th birthday. You always hear about the pain that comes with getting a tattoo, but that never scared me away from getting it. Ever since my first tattoo, I became even more fascinated. When I turned 18, I got more and more. You could say I got a little addicted. Some have a lot of meaning to them, and some don’t (but I don’t really believe all tattoos need a meaning). I believe that tattoos are a way to express yourself, as well as give yourself a little more individuality. They are also always a conversation starter. This blog is going to showcase my tattoos, my friends tattoos, and some tattoos that I’ve stumbled upon that I just really like. I will give a detailed description on the pain level of different areas of the body (from my experience) as well as the meaning behind certain tattoos. I hope you enjoy my blog!
